Step 4 is a hard gate: the loop cannot advance to terminal guidance without an explicit operator decision.

Terminal guidance is the last stage of the onboard autonomy loop. Once the operator has authorised engagement, the module maintains lock and guides the platform through terminal approach with no command link. The operator retains full override at any moment.

Operator authorisation is a hard gate

Detection and tracking run continuously on the drone. The transition to terminal guidance happens only after explicit operator authorisation: step 4 of the loop is a hard gate, and the pipeline cannot advance to terminal guidance without an operator decision.

Any engagement decision requires explicit operator authorisation — by architecture, not by policy.

This is a structural property of the system, not a configurable setting. It also aligns the product with EU defence-funding ethics requirements from the start rather than retrofitting compliance later.

Why it matters under electronic warfare

Under active EW the radio link is jammed and GNSS is denied, so a conventional FPV drone loses both video and control in the final seconds. AKINAK-AG keeps lock onboard and needs no link for the approach, which is why it holds up where link-dependent guidance does not. See EW resilience and the FPV terminal guidance application.

Terminal Guidance: questions

Who decides whether to engage?

The operator, always. Any engagement decision requires explicit operator authorisation, and the processing pipeline cannot advance to terminal guidance without it. That is a property of the architecture, not a configurable policy.

Does terminal guidance need a command link?

No. After the operator has authorised engagement, the module maintains lock and guides the platform through terminal approach onboard, with no command link. The operator can still override at any moment.

Is AKINAK-AG combat-proven?

Yes. It is in operational use with Ukrainian forces against ground targets, under active electronic warfare, and was demonstrated at BRAVE1.
